Chili oil omelet with honey & cheese | Glutenfreewhisk

Another breakfast recipe with egg. If you love starting your day with a hearty warm breakfast specifically including egg and toast, then you should give this trending egg recipe a try. A lot of people are trying to make this recipe on the Instagram as honey chili oil egg but for me the method of first adding the chili oil, then the cheese and then the egg just don't work. The cheese is sticking to the pan no matter how new my pan is and how well I grease it. So, I am making an exceptional version of the same with my twists. I am using the same ingredients but with some extra added ingredients to add to the fun. And this chili oil omelet with cheese, honey, and olives is addictive. Already made it thrice now.

Egg is literally the easiest breakfast one can fix for themselves. It is quick and it is quicker if you love sunny side up. I am more of an always cook my egg well kind of person, but it is still fast. Since I don't consume gluten, so I don't have toast available. Also, I don't always have a freshly baked gluten-free bread available at home so serving it for the purpose of good-looking plate was really difficult. I tried serving it with rice because that's what I had it with for lunch. I also tried serving it with some fresh chopped fruits in Greek yogurt, but the plate didn't look that great. So, I finally decided to some color by using some fresh green oregano leaves and some dark red cherries. And I think I did a pretty good job.

The taste of this egg breakfast is exceptional. I don't consume chilis at all and to my wonder this is not very spicy and obviously you can add the amount of chili oil to your liking. And with rice the spiciness balanced out well. Finding chili oil was a task for me because I don't eat it and I had to get the tiniest pack so that it is not wasted even if I couldn't consume all of it. I bought the small 10-rupee sachet. Somewhere I also knew that this recipe will not be a perfect one in a single try. And my tiny chili oil pack helped me for 5 or 6 serving.

I have shared one of my favorite egg breakfast recipes in the past. This recipe is so great that I have it at least twice a week. My crispy potato carrot egg pancake recipe with cheese is hands down one of my favorite savory breakfasts ever. I love potatoes and this recipe is my way of saying I love potatoes. If you are not an egg person, then you can check my Bajra poha recipe which is another great breakfast option to start your day with. I know a lot of people will call this breakfast unhealthy because potato for breakfast is carbohydrates and starch and whatnot. And same for poha, because modern terminology for healthy anything is just protein. I am still old school in that way as I have an active lifestyle, so I eat what I want.

For the longest time I have skipped breakfast because I all I cared for was my coffee and not eating didn't impacted me. I also think all the meals are equally important and not just breakfast and yes, it makes sense that you are breaking a fast in a way after the dinner meal the previous night. But I skipped breakfast and I can't. My body just don't allow it. So, as you grow you do get wiser and you start to appreciate small things, even if it is just your hearty breakfast. So, make all your meals fun and healthy that you don't feel like skipping them. And you basically wake up for your breakfast and not just coffee. Because I do that now. I wake up for food. Cheesy? Maybe! Do I care? No!

Happy eating!

INGREDIENTS -

1 Egg

1 Cheese cube, grated

5-6 pitted black olives, chopped

Salt, to taste

half a tsp roasted cumin powder

Half a tsp honey

1.5 tsp chili oil

half a tsp regular oil, to grease the pan

Whole cherries, for garnish

8-10 fresh oregano leaves, for garnish

METHOD -

1. Grease a pan with oil and let is heat a little. In the meantime, crack an egg in a bowl add salt to taste and roasted cumin powder to it and whisk well.

2. Pour this whisked egg in the warm greased pan. Spread honey over it, place some chopped black olives, spread the chili oil and half of the grated cheese of choice.

3. Cover and let it cook well. Once done, switch off the heat and let it rest in the heat for some time so that the egg gets well done even from the top in the heat as we will not flip this. If you like your egg half-done or runny then you can remove it from the heat as soon as the egg gets set at the bottom and transfer it to a plate.

4.  I like my egg well done so I let it rest. Once to your liking, take a nice flat spatula and transfer it to a serving plate. Spread rest of the grated cheese, more chopped black olives and serve garnishing with oregano leaves, black olives and whole cherries.

Note - You can add black pepper powder as well in the omelet but for me the spice from chili oil was enough. You can increase the amount of chili oil as per taste. Greasing the pan well is really important.

If you are spice lover you can use this Extra spicy, extra hot chili oil from Masterchow. After having a spicy meal all you need is a great coffee drink. Try my iced strawberry coffee with sago pearls. For ice cubes I use this silicon 2-piece square ice cube tray from clazkit
