Whey water summer drink | Glutenfreewhisk

Every time the milk spoils at home, we all are happy to get the fresh paneer out of it but the rest of the water or whey as it is called which is rich in minerals and vitamins is left behind and is discarded. But it should never be thrown away as it is healthy and can be made even better with simple masalas mix to get the perfect protein rich drink out of it. One such recipe is this one.

In my home I generally use this whey in cooking rice and dal which is very convenient and the best way because a lot of people do not prefer using it and it has a peculiar tangy taste. Cooking it with dal or rice gives flavor to the meal and you don't get that strong taste as well. I also use it to knead my maize flour in it. Trust me it gives the best tasting soft maize flour roti. And the aroma that is tangy and amazing in the kitchen is so appetizing. Obviously, I don't knead the flour in bulk, fresh batch every time. It helps keeping things fresh and taste better. Store it in refrigerator in a glass jar to keep it fresh for long time.

In my past recipe I have used soaking chia seeds in whey water to get that extra taste and if you are looking for the recipe then check my healthy dessert recipe of coffee and mixed berries tofu pudding. So, there are many ways in which this whey water can be used, and its benefits can be attained using it.

But from the time I have learnt to make this drink, I am making this whenever I get the chance. A simple mix of black salt, lemon, salt, black pepper, cumin powder and some sugar and you get this amazing sweet and salty summer drink. Summer is the season when milk spoils the most. And this year the heat is at its peak so make use of it when you get the perfect ingredients make the most of all of them.

In my summer recipe series this is episode 20 and this summer drink is healthy and tasty. I have shared some amazing summer drinks with summer fruits like Bel ka sharbat or Lychee green tea summer drink using Bel or wood apple and Lychee respectively. I have also shared some amazing summer coffee drinks that are too addictive and beautiful looking to miss. Try my recipe of ocean blue latte or mango blue pea coffee that are so good looking that you will instantly love them even before tasting them.

This best part about this whey water protein drink is that it is minimum efforts. Just cold whey and basic spices and you are sorted. No churning, no cutting or chopping nothing just mixed and done. A lot of people think that this is waste, but the natural whey water protein content is 0.8% and I know it is not much, but it is something. Other benefits of whey water are it is rich in calcium, potassium and vitamin B and helps in hydration with flavors and benefits. Better than aeriated beverages.

Give this drink a try if you don't make it already because it is good and different.

Manna millets combo of 3, 1.5 kg Kodo, foxtail and little millet, naturally gluten-free, low GI and great for diabetic person for nutritional meals. Yogabar pack of 2 quinoa. 1 kg each is another protein rich super food to have protein intake and have a balanced meal if you are diabetic or gluten intolerant.

INGREDIENTS -

300 ml whey water

0.5 tsp Salt

1.5 tsp Black salt

3-4 tsp Powdered white sugar

2 tsp Roasted cumin powder

Juice of 1.5 Lemon

0.5 tsp black pepper

For garnish

Mix of all the above masala (salt, sugar, black salt, roasted cumin powder)

Used or squeezed lemon to wet the rim of the glass

OR

A tulsi spring

METHOD -

1. In a jar of chilled whey water add all the above-mentioned ingredients and mix well until the sugar and salt are dissolved.

2. Take this masala mix (salt, sugar and black salt) separately on a plate. Now take the used or squeezed lemon half and rub it on the rim of the serving glass. Roll this glass onto the plate with masala mix so that the salt, sugar, and black salt are attached to the lemon rimmed glass.

3. Stir and pour the whey water protein drink in the glass and indulge. You can even simply garnish the glass with a tulsi spring. Check image 2 below.

Note - Adding red chili powder is not in the books for me, but you can add that as well if you are a spice lover. I do not prefer it, so I have skipped it. You can add ice cubes as well, but I am using chilled whey water so don't feel the need to add ice.
