Cinnamon vanilla roasted pear in red wine | Glutenfreewhisk

This dessert is hands down one of the healthiest desserts ever that I have made. The combination of cinnamon and vanilla with butter and red wine just makes the pear taste really something. You have to try this. Because words cannot describe the beauty, the aroma, the flavors of this dessert.

Babugosha, is a soft variety of pear that I have always liked. I don't eat fruits a lot anymore but occasionally and specially cooked fruits as dessert really are something. When I saw a similar recipe on Instagram, I knew I have to give this a try. I saw a few versions and decided to club them. The end result is an absolute delight. The buttery, smooth pear with the kick of red wine and everything is beautiful balanced by the Greek yogurt. The crunch from nuts roasted in butter with cinnamon and vanilla are the perfect bite element and elevated the dessert altogether. I wanted to use ghee in this recipe for my love for ghee but since I had some salted butter I thought nothing is better than a big chunk of butter. These ingredients together really create a wonder.

If you want, you can even bake the pear on a greased baking tray in the oven at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes and you will have the best honey baked roasted pear. Serve with dollop of Greek yogurt and you can have the best dessert ever. This time I am choosing to roast these soft babugosha pear in a pan with the simple ingredients. The red wine is completely optional, but I think you should add it because it not only adds to the flavor but also makes the recipe have that luscious syrup to pour over. Also, cooking red wine with the pear will break all the alcohol so you can indulge in.

I would like to include this recipe in my summer recipe series as some pear varieties are for the summers and this amazing dessert. Babugosha is both summer and monsoon fruit as it is available from May to August. So, for all these months you have one dessert to indulge on and trust me you will crave for this once you try it. This Buttery roasted pear dessert is worth all the trouble, and it just takes 20-30 minutes to get is all sorted. This is episode 9 in my summer recipe series, and I am super delighted to share this recipe with you all. Aromatic, tasty and with many health benefits, cinnamon and vanilla roasted pear in red wine, which again has many health benefits from keeping your cells healthy and ageing slowly. Served with natural Greek yogurt and crunchy butter toasted almonds and pistachios.

You can even have this dessert as a meal. It is that good and indulgent.

Other summer recipes that I have shared in my summer recipe series are with other summer fruits like Loquat, mango, wood apple and mosambi. You can check the recipes here

All these recipes are kids friendly or can be made kids friendly easily as the spices are minimal and they can be reduced further and the alcohol used in any of these recipes is completely optional and can be skipped completely.

If you have a sweet tooth, then dessert craving after meals is often there. This roasted pear dessert is not only satisfying but also healthy compared to store bought ice creams/ frozen dessert or chocolates etc. You can eat it guilt-free with obviously minor changes like choosing vegan butter and healthier sweetener.

INGREDIENTS -

1 babugosha pear

5-10 chopped almonds and pistachios

1 vanilla pod

1 tsp cinnamon powder

20 gm salted butter (4 tsp or around 2 tbsp if using melted butter)

2 tbsp brown sugar

2 tbsp Honey

1 shot red wine of choice

30 gm Greek yogurt, to serve

For some frugal almond try Tata sampann pure California almonds and for pistachios try these roasted and salted famley's pistachios

METHOD -

1. In a pan add butter, allow it to melt. Once melted keep the heat or flame very low. Add chopped nuts and roast them lightly. Add vanilla pod, cinnamon powder to it followed by brown sugar, honey and place the pear halves on it.

2. Finally add the red wine shot and cover and let everything cook and the syrup thickens. The babugosha pear is naturally soft but you still want the flavors to seep in. Make sure you do not burn anything or over cook it. Keep the flame low and cover and cook.

3. I have chopped my pear into half keeping the stock and then sliced those halves again. This makes then soften faster and become stable in the syrup with a flat area to cook evenly.

4. Once done allow them to cool a little at room temperature and serve warm placing the pear over Greek yogurt. Pour in all the gooey, buttery, beautiful shade of red syrup on top and indulge.

Note - The red wine is optional and instead you can add regular water to help the pear cook and prevent the sugar, butter and honey from burning. Use any nuts of choice. Walnuts go really well with this honey roasted pear dessert.
