Getting a gluten free hot chocolate anywhere around me is a challenge and it is difficult to find one so making it at home is the best thing. I have made many hot chocolates in the past and they are not always up to the consistency that I desire. I have had ragi hot chocolate where the refined flour or corn starch is replaced with ragi flour, but something was missing in that recipe. So, this winter's when I tried making my own oat milk, I discovered one of the creamiest, naturally thick consistency hot chocolate with adding any heavy cream or flour.
If every winter, you crave hot chocolate like me then you have to give this recipe a try. My hot chocolate recipe is a full proof that does not require any hot chocolate mix or powder. Plant based milk are now a natural and regular part of people's life even if they are not lactose intolerant. Choosing a healthy way to live and learning along the way is very important.
A lot of people are making their own plant-based milk at home like almond milk, oats milk, rice milk and even soy milk and this is great. After being intolerant to gluten, lactose does not work for me either. And recently I too am trying to incorporate plant-based milk in my diet and am getting acquainted to its taste. Especially oat milk. So, the need to add oat milk in my hot chocolate came from the fact that I wanted to get acquainted with its taste in hot chocolate as well. As I have mentioned in my oat milk recipe that I prefer my oat milk to be on the thicker side and not watery. I added the same in my hot chocolate which naturally made the consistency of the hot chocolate as to my liking. Creamy, thick and chocolaty.
A lot of content creator are making their own hot chocolate mix or powder and are keeping it, but I prefer making it fresh. Adding a thick consistency oat milk eliminate the need to add cream or any kind of dairy and corn starch and gives you the perfect recipe for hot chocolate.
I always use dark chocolate in my recipes whether I am baking a cake or making hot chocolate. You can make this hot chocolate vegan by adding vegan chocolate as we are using oat milk. So, you will get an amazing gluten-free and vegan hot chocolate recipe at home that is so easy and one of the best hot chocolate I have had.
No hot chocolate mix just a few fresh ingredients and you can indulge in a mug full of comfort.
INGREDIENTS -
75 gm dark chocolate (55%)
2 cup fresh oat milk without any sweetener
1tsp cinnamon powder
2 tsp brown sugar (or as per taste)
Stevia leaves, fresh, for garnish
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
METHOD -
1. In a heavy bottom saucepan, add the oat milk and let it get warm at a very low flame. Stir every now and then.
2. Add cinnamon powder to the milk while it gets warm. Once warm add a little to the cocoa powder and dissolve it first before adding this slurry in the oat milk. Keep the flame low and stir continuously.
3. Add the sugar and dark chocolate and stir till you reaches the desired consistency. Turn off the flame and serve immediately.
4. Garnish with fresh stevia leaves and serve hot. Indulge.
Note - Stirring continuously and making this hot chocolate at a very low flame is very important. The oat milk will start to form lumps as it will stick to the bottom of the pan and while stirring you will scrape it out as lumps. So, keep the flame low or turn it off as the chocolate will melt in the heat itself.
