Sattu Chocolate Halwa | Glutenfreewhisk

This recipe is a really healthy and unique one and I made this out of chance. I wasn't planning on making this and basically I wanted to make Eggless Sattu pancakes for breakfast but it came out to be a disaster. I kept the batter aside and made something else for my breakfast. In the evening, in order, not to waste the batter, I poured it in a thick bottom pan and just went with the flow. Since Sattu is already roasted flour and can be eaten just like that, I was really worried that it will get burnt and will go to waste ultimately, but to my surprise it came out to be a good dish.

Since I wanted to make Pancakes so I added Chocolate Chips and milk to the Sattu, so in the end it was Halwa with Chocolate. Sattu is roasted Channa flour which is gluten free unlike normal wheat flour. Its is widely consumed all over India and there are so many recipes that can be made out of it and most famous being Litti Chokha, sattu ke ladoo and many many more. When later on doing some research I came to know in maximum of recipes for Sattu pancake other flours are also added which I didn't do but in the end I got this amazing halwa that I have no regrets later.

For that pancake batter I chose to add only chocolate chip and was planning to serve it with a generous dressing of honey and banana to go with, which allowed me to add jaggery to the halwa to add sweetness to it which makes it really healthy and good. It is really a simple recipe that is filled with health and totally amazing taste so try it out.

RECIPE

Ingredients:

3 cup Sattu Flour (Roasted Channa)
Handfull of Chocolate Chips
1 tsp Green Cardamom Powder
2 tbsp Ghee
7-8 Chopped Almonds
Jaggery, as per sweetness
1 cup Milk
Water as required to make the batter
Almonds, for garnish

Method:

  • In a bowl add sattu flour, milk, chocolate chips and water together, make a batter resembling the batter for pancakes, not very thin or flowy or not very thick.
  • In a thick bottom pan add ghee and pour the above mixture to it, make sure you reduce the flame once the mixture is heated and keep on stirring the mixture.
  • Once the milk and water starts to reduce or evaporate and the mixture gets thick add the jaggery to it and switch off the heat and allow the jaggery to melt and stir the batter continuously.
  • Put is over a low flame again for 3-4 minutes add chopped almonds, cardamom powder and stir it till it is halwa like consistency.
  • Serve hot with chopped almonds.
Note: Make sure you cook it at low flame in order to prevent it from burning as sattu is already roasted flour.
The recipe I am sharing is exactly what I did in order to make pancakes and then made it into halwa. But if you want you can start with step two, add the sattu flour over ghee followed by milk, water and rest of the steps will be same.
