Papaya Halwa

I know your first reaction is like what, yeah that was my reaction too when I first learned about this delicious way to eat papaya. Papaya Halwa is made during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi and is offered to him like modak. I had no idea about this and got to know this tale and recipe on a television show and I felt sharing it with my readers.

I really think I should  name this recipe like its done in some fancy restaurant to attract readers but I like to keep it simple and for all those who don't like papaya and don't eat it at all, this is the best way to eat papaya and believe me it does not even tastes like papaya. This recipe is simple with just few ingredients and you are good to go.

I am sharing a recipe that will make less quantity and if you wish to make more just increase the ingredients according to your need.

P.S. The fancy name for the desserts in a fancy restaurant could be " Cardamom flavored mashed papaya" with the description about it that can go like "Mashed Papaya cooked in pure ghee flavored with saffron and cardamom and topped with chopped nuts".
How do you like it now??😎😉

Recipe:

Ingredients:

2 tbsp Ghee
250 gms Ripe Papaya, Diced
Jaggery according to the ripeness of papaya and your taste
1 tsp Green Cardamom
Few Strands of Saffron
50-70 gms Khoya, Mashed
Almonds and Cashew,Chopped

For Garnish:
Chopped Almonds and Cashews

Method:

  • Take the ghee in a pan, add the papaya and cook till papaya becomes soft and can be mashed with a masher or a fork.
  • Add the jaggery to it and mix until the jaggery melts.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well till khoya gets incorporated completely. Cook it for few minutes and serve hot garnishing with chopped nuts.
